Well, the thread I thought was for character intro was actually not. So I suppose this is as good a place as any. You've met "Knight Glider" the person - now meet Knight Glider the pony.
-------------------
Early in life, Knight Glider displayed an amazing aptitude for chess and other games of strategy. While still in grade school, he entered Cloudsdale's Junior Chess Tournament, qualifying to play in the High School age bracket and surprising everypony by beating the defending champion, the head of Cloudsdale High's Chess Club. The victory gave young Knighty another reason to celebrate as well. Just as he uttered 'Checkmate', his cutie mark appeared - three chess pieces now adorned his flank.
Knight Glider would go on to be head of Cloudsdale High's chess club himself, remaining undefeated in a number of local and national competitions. Over time, he noticed that his grasp of strategy and tactics spilled over into everyday life as well. He could read situations and other ponies, perceiving things that nopony else could.
Knighty was also fascinated with Gryphon history and culture and took up learning the language, enabling him to read some of the works of their greatest military minds.
Enrolling in the Equestrian Army right out of high school, Knighty's strategic mind propelled him through the ranks. At 28, he became the youngest general in Equestrian history. His strategies enabled the Equestrian forces to gain new territory, reclaiming several areas from marauding dragons and bands of organized brigands.
Within a year of his promotion, however, Knighty found himself put to a bigger test, as Equestria faced war with a changeling-infiltrated Gryphon Empire.
While the Elements of Harmony exposed the deception within months, causing most of the gryphons to turn against the changeling interlopers, the war raged for almost a year, until the combined Gryphon and Equestrian forces managed to capture Queen Chrysalis.
During all this time, Knight Glider had been planning strategy in the clean, sterile war rooms of various command posts. On touring the final battlefield after the changeling's surrender, he found himself appalled by the carnage and destruction.
In a move that shocked Canterlot nobility, Knight Glider resigned his post barely a month after the war ended, and quietly moved to the sleepy little town of Ponyville, supplementing his military pension by working as a freelance consultant in Corporate Strategy for businesses across Equestria.
Knighty continued to pursue his passion for chess, maintaining his ECF rank of Grand Master.
During his military career, he had never really had much time to consider a relationship, but now that he had settled down, he found himself increasingly drawn to the local mailmare, a clumsy but perpetually cheerful gray pony with a lovely young daughter. Over the course of the next few years, their relationship steadily progressed and they were eventually married in a small private ceremony.
While Knighty tends not to go looking for adventure anymore, sometimes it finds him...
